The Champagne Reviewer
de VenogeThe de Venoge family hails from Switzerland and more precisely, from the region crossed by the river Venoge.
De Venoge was founded Originally in Mareuil-sur-Ay in 1837, but soon moved to Epernay. It has no vineyards of its own but buys in all its own grapes, including 30% from the Cote de Sezanne as they believe it brings complexity to young blends.
Henri-Marc de Venoge, was the founder of de Venoge Champagne House, and he was the first to illustrate his labels, which was a completely new concept in Champagne.
Until then, labels had simply shown the name of the producer and the vintage. In 1837, Henri-Marc designed an oval label sporting two painted bottles and the de Venoge name. He retired in 1845 and died in 1860. Year Founded: 1837 Address: 46, avenue de Champagne, 51200 Epernay Owned By: BCC
